Education
The educational process at the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is conducted in accordance with the regulatory legal acts of Ukraine and, specifically, with the Regulation on the Organization of the Educational Process.
The purpose of the process is to train highly qualified military specialists at the first (Bachelor's) and second (Master's) levels of higher education, as well as at the levels of military education, for filling officer positions in the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other components of the defense forces. It also aims to ensure they acquire new and improve previously obtained competencies through postgraduate education programs and in the professional military education system, as well as to satisfy other educational needs of cadets, students, adjutants (hereinafter – recipients of education).
The process is carried out on the basis of license series AE No. 636455 dated 09.06.2015 for conducting educational activities of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (hereinafter – TSKNU) and accreditation certificates, and provides for the issuance of higher education documents to MI TSKNU graduates for accredited educational and professional programs.
Training Model
The attainment of specific higher education degrees and military education levels requires the combination of formal and non-formal education. Within the framework of formal education, Military Institute conducts the educational process based on KNU's current license for educational activities at the first (Bachelor's) and second (Master's) levels of higher education. It issues higher education documents to graduates who have mastered the relevant educational-professional program and successfully passed the attestation, under the corresponding accredited educational-professional program (specialty). Within the framework of non-formal education, the educational process at MI TSKNU is carried out through educational programs for professional military education courses and provides for the issuance of a corresponding certificate to individuals who have successfully completed the training.
Professional military education is a specialized education of a military nature that is obtained through professional military education courses at the tactical level. NATO standards requirements are additionally taken into account when forming the content of professional military education.
The basic tactical level course L-1A (40 credits) and the specialized tactical level course L-1B (30 credits) have been integrated into the educational and professional programs for training tactical level officers for the Bachelor's degree level. The Command tactical level course L-1C (20 credits) has been integrated into the educational programs for training tactical level officers for the Master's degree level.
During the training of specialists under the L-1A, L-1B, and L-1C course programs, the planning procedures of TLP (Troop Leading Procedures) and MDMP (Military Decision Making Process) are studied.
Military Institute trains military specialists:

Full-time:
- Scheme "cadet" for the educational degree "Bachelor" – 4 years
- Scheme "auditor" for the educational degree "Master"– 1,5 року.

Part-time:
- Scheme "Auditor" for the educational degree "Master"– 1,5 року.
- Scheme "Student" for the educational degree "Bachelor" – 5 years (from among the contract servicemen of the enlisted and sergeant corps).
- Scheme "Reserve Officer": military training for citizens of Ukraine who study under the Reserve Officer Training Program at the expense of individuals (legal entities) in 13 Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) across three departments of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (conducted in the relevant MOS using the military day method) – 2 years.
Scheme "Reserve Officer": military training for citizens of Ukraine who study under the Reserve Officer Training Program at the expense of individuals (legal entities) in 13 Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) across three departments of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (conducted in the relevant MOS using the military day method) – 2 years.
Curriculum Development
Curriculum Development at the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is an integral part of the educational process and one of the types of activity of the management staff, academic (pedagogical) personnel, commanders of educational units, and instructor staff. It encompasses activities aimed at the scientifically substantiated organization of the educational process and its delivery, taking into account scientific achievements in the field of education and the training of students.
Main OBJECTIVES of curriculum development:
- Scientific and methodological support for the organization, execution, and quality management of the educational process;
- Enhancing the methodological skills of the management staff, academic (pedagogical) personnel, instructor staff, and commanders of educational units at the Military Institute;
- Improving the methodology, forms, and technologies for conducting all types of academic classes.
Main FORMS of curriculum development:
- Conducting academic-methodological (methodological) meetings (up to 5 days), consultations, scientific-methodological conferences, and seminars;
- Meetings of the academic (methodological) councils of the Institute and the faculties;
- Department meetings to review issues concerning the methodology of instruction and education of students;
- Instructor-methodological, demonstration, open, and trial academic classes;
- Lectures, reports, and presentations on issues of teaching methodology, general and military pedagogy, and psychology;
- Development and improvement of academic and methodological materials, including materials for diagnosing the academic progress of students;
- Conducting pedagogical (methodological) experiments and implementing their results into the educational process;
- Studying and implementing into the educational process the requirements of governing documents, materials on advanced pedagogical experience, and the experience of combat training of troops (forces) and conduct of combat operations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of Ukraine's defense forces;
- Studying and implementing into the educational process the best training methodologies for military specialists adopted in the armed forces of NATO member states;
- Developing proposals for improving educational programs for training military specialists, requirements for the higher education quality assurance system, curricula, and working syllabi of academic disciplines;
- Developing scientifically substantiated recommendations regarding the work planning of academic (pedagogical) staff and students;
- Mutual and control attendance of academic classes by academic (pedagogical) staff.
Quality Assurance of Educational Activity and Higher Education
The Department for Quality Assurance of Educational Activity and Higher Education of the Military Institute was established with the aim of:
- Methodological support and organizational accompaniment of the process of ensuring that learning outcomes comply with established standards and the needs of customers for the training of military specialists;
- Formation and support of mechanisms for the continuous improvement of the educational process;
- Coordination and monitoring of the activities of the structural units of the Military Institute regarding quality assurance of educational activity and higher education;
- Information and analytical support for the leadership of the Military Institute on issues of quality assurance of educational activity.
The main objectives of the Department are:
- Formation of policies, procedures, and practices for the academic quality assurance of higher education at the Military Institute;
- Organization of preparedness measures for the licensing of educational activities and the accreditation of educational-professional, educational-scientific, educational programs, and professional military education courses at the Military Institute;
- Organization and execution of measures aimed at determining the compliance of learning outcomes with legal requirements, higher education standards, professional standards, and the needs of the troops;
- Ensuring the adherence to academic integrity by the academic staff (NPP) of the Military Institute and students of higher education, including the creation and maintenance of a system for preventing and detecting academic plagiarism;
- Implementation into the educational process and the training of military specialists of the experience of training and joint application (interoperability) of forces and means of the defense components, as well as the standards and procedures adopted in NATO member states.

Faculty Development Course
The Course is intended for the academic staff (mentors, instructors) of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv who plan, organize, and conduct educational activities. In the future, it may be possible to scale up the course for academic staff (mentors, instructors) of other military educational institutions in Ukraine and partner countries.
The goal of the Course is to develop the competencies of its participants in planning, organizing, and assuring the quality of educational activities, in compliance with the requirements of NATO Directive Education and Individual Training (E&ITD) 075-007. This specifically includes conducting classes using the best educational practices of NATO countries, modern teaching methods and principles, as well as the objective assessment of the learning outcomes of cadets/students and the program as a whole.
NATO DEEP Master Instructor Training Course
The Course is oriented towards the academic staff (mentors, instructors) of the Military Institute and specialists who plan, organize, and conduct educational activities. In the future, the Course may be scaled up for academic staff (mentors, instructors) of other military educational institutions in Ukraine and partner countries.
The expected result of the Course's implementation is the creation of a faculty (instructor) development program at the Military Institute that supports instructors with modern educational methods and technologies, as well as the creation of contemporary educational programs based on adult learning approaches and active student-centered learning. The key to achieving this is the training of Master Instructors who are certified and capable of creating and conducting faculty development programs and courses, and specialists in planning and quality assurance of education at the Military Institute.
